Suggest a Walk, Activity or a Business

Suggest a dog-friendly walking track, beach, activity or business

Have you and furbaby recently visited a dog-friendly business in New Zealand? Did you come across an awesome walking track or dog-friendly beach?

Please don’t keep it a secret and share your findings with the DOGALONG NZ community!

Only with your help and first-hand experience can we grow the number of dog-friendly places at the speed you deserve.

Upload your suggestion now!

Please note: If you are a dog-friendly business who would like to list on dogalong.nz, please click here to do so. A regular listing is completely free to upload.

How to upload a dog-friendly suggestion?

1. Click the “Submit A Listing” button:
2. Enter the name of the dog-friendly business, activity, walking track or beach.

In Full Address, re-enter the name of the dog-friendly place and click on the right suggestion in the drop-down (auto-fill by Google).

If you know their phone number, you can enter it in the field (optional)

3. Choose the right “Category & Services” from the drop-down menu

Depending what you choose here, it will trigger related follow-up questions further down

4. Tick any of the boxes that apply

For example, if you choose Walks & Parks as the category, you can say if the walk said dogs need to be on leash. Or if if it’s an off-leash area, how difficult the walk is (for parks and beaches, choose “Easiest”, whether the majority of the walk is exposed to the elements or a good choice also on hot days, etc.
Each category has its own tick boxes.

5. Add business hours (optional)

If you know business hours of a dog-friendly business, you can change them here. Don’t worry if you don’t know them, we can get in touch with the businesses and ask them.

When a walk or park has business hours, please either enter them here or let us know in the description as we might otherwise not be aware of this.

6. Describe the dog-friendly place (most important step!)

This unimposing field is one of the most important part of your suggestion! This is where you enter all of the information you have about the dog-friendly business, walking track or beach. The more information you can give us, the better!

Now, this doesn’t have to be a full school report. You don’t even have to write full sentences if you don’t feel like it. Just give us the lowdown on the place and what you enjoyed, what to look out, etc. We then turn it into a nicely written blurb before your suggestion goes live.

If you upload your own images and would like some credit in the form of a link to your (or your fur baby’s) social media profile, you’re welcome to pop this in here as well.

7. Upload images (optional)

If you’ve got some pictures of the dog-friendly place you’re suggesting, you can upload them here. The images should ideally be horizontal but if you only have vertical ones that’s ok as well.

You can add them all into the biggest grey field at the top. If you have a horizontal image you especially like, you can add this to ‘Featured Image’ and this will become the title picture on the map.

No worries if you don’t feel like sharing pictures of your own adventure, just leave out this step. We’re usually pretty good in finding or asking for images we’re legally allowed to use.

Should you struggle uploading the pictures (we’ve heard it doesn’t always work) but want to share your own with the community, you can just send them to alexandra@dogalong.nz

8. Add any additional info (optional)

Depending which category you choose in the drop-down further up, it will open some text boxes for additional information about your dog-friendly suggestion.

If you want, you can add more information into these boxes but it’s not necessary.

9. Enter your email address and hit “Save”

Or if you’ve suggested a dog-friendly place before, you can tick “Already have an Account” and sign in.

Once you hit “Save”, your suggestion goes into approval before it goes live. In the approval, we basically double-check the information, make sure it actually has to do with a dog-friendly place in New Zealand and isn’t spam, neaten up the description box and, once everything looks good, we’ll approve your suggestion and it goes live onto the map!
