Off-leash | one-way walking track or loop from town | approx 1.2 km to summit or 5.5 km loop | Duration: 45 mins to the summit, total approx 60 – 90 mins | Difficulty: Medium

While the Tirohanga Track is reasonably short, it’s got quite the bite to it.

The walking track climbs from the Newgate Street car park to the summit. It’s approximately 1.2 km long and only takes about 45 minutes to reach the summit but the track through the bush is pretty steep and can get your lungs burning. Once you’ve reached the summit, however, you’re rewarded with a fabulous view over Picton and the Sounds.

Either turn around to get back to your car or follow the track down the hill to the Garden Terrace car park where, if you feel like it, you can continue your walkies on the Essons Valley Reserve Track.

You can also walk the Tirohanga Track as a loop from/to Picton town centre. This loop is around 5.5km long and should take you around 90 minutes (plus additional stop and sniffing time)

The Tirohanga Track is a fully off-leash track. There can sometimes be traps in the bush to control predators, so just make sure you keep an eye on your pooch at all times.
