On-leash | One-way (return via same track) | Distance: 2.2 km | Duration: 45 minutes | Difficulty: Easy | Exposed to the weather

There are a few walking tracks leaving from the tiny town of Puhoi north of Auckland and not all of them are dog-friendly, so do keep a good eye on which ones your pooch is allowed.

One dog-friendly walking track is Puhoi Riverside Walkway.

To find the walking track, you have to cross the bridge over Puhoi River (you also find public toilets there) and turn left right after towards the gravel road. Follow the road until you come to a fork, where it gets a little confusing. If you kept following the gravel road past the gate (if it’s open), dogs are not allowed.

But if you keep left at the gate and walk on the grass (between the river and the gravel road), dogs are still allowed on a leash all the way to the end of the track.

By the way: The historic Puhoi Pub is dog-friendly, so treat yourself after the walkies.
