Off-leash walking track | approx. 9 km | approx 2 – 2.5h | Difficulty: Easy

Esson Valley Reserve is a lesser-known off-leash bush walk in Picton. Locals love the track as their fur babies can run off-leash (while still under control).

The walking track starts at the Garden Terrace dead-end / car park. From here, you can either start walking on the Tirohanga Track or the Esson Valley Reserve Track to Humphries and Barnes Dams. Unlike Tirohanga, Essons Valley Reserve is relatively flat and easy. The track eventually branches off into two tracks, like a Y. One walk goes to Humphries Dam (where you’ll also find a picnic spot), the other one to Barnes Dam. To walk both of them, it should take you around 2 – 2.5 hours, or 9 km (12 km if you’re walking to the trailhead from Picton CBD).
