On-leash areas | Off-leash areas | Dog-friendly cafe (outdoors) at entrance

The Auckland Botanic Gardens is located on Hill Road, Manurewa and covers 64 hectares (156 acres) of land, including 10 hectares of native forest. The garden opened to the public in 1982. Dogs are welcome to explore all corners of the garden with their owner.

Please keep your pooch leashed in the themed gardens but you’ll find a big off-leash area at the northern entrance to the botanic gardens. Just make sure your dogs are under control at any time.

Get your caffeine fix or a delicious lunch at Cafe Miko. Dogs are allowed to stay with you at the outside tables under the sun umbrellas and chances are good to meet some new doggy friends. There are a few water bowls but it’s best to bring your own.

Please note that dogs are not allowed inside public buildings (you’ll need to enter from the side if you park at the main entrance) or inside the cafe. The cafe is open from 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm on weekends (kitchen closes earlier).
